DNR Teaches Online Permit Process—February 15 and March 2
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Coastal Management Division will hold additional training sessions on how to use the agency's new automated permit processing system. The department has streamlined the way applications are received, processed and approved for coastal use requests or what is known as the CUP process in the state.
Public Meetings set for Coastal Impact Assistance Program
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host five public meetings to advise the public of the process that the state will use to formulate the plan required by the recently authorized Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP). The new program was authorized by Section 384 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and will provide a total of $540 million in federal funding to Louisiana during fiscal years 2007 through 2010.

DOE grant with state energy office to enhance rebuilding efforts
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Technology Assessment Division has been awarded a $100,000 grant by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design practices into Louisiana’s rebuilding efforts. National experts with many years of experience will be available to share building design concepts at scheduled forums to be held in the hurricane affected regions of the state.

DNR Geologist Named Vice President of National Group

Dr. Madhurendu B. Kumar, a geologist with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Conservation, has been named vice president of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). He was also awarded the Presidential Certificate of Merit for his leadership as the Chairman of the Practicality Committee during AIGP’s 2005 annual meeting recently held in Lexington, KY.
DNR Welcomes Korean Energy Company to State
The Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Office of Conservation has issued two drilling permits in Iberia parish for exploration and production to SK E&P Corp., headquartered in Seoul, Korea. DNR Secretary Scott Angelle said this particular drilling marks a page in oil and gas history for Louisiana, since it is the company’s first operating venture in the United States. SK Corp. specializes in energy and chemicals and is active in 19 countries.
