The state Office of Conservation is distributing a video and lesson plan to middle schools across the state, beginning this week. The video and ready-to-use lesson plan is about science, safety, and preventing youngsters from playing around well sites.

October Lease Sale Reported by State Mineral Board
As the culmination of two years working closely with the Russell Sage Foundation (a 50 percent mineral owner under Marsh Island) and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, an exclusive geophysical agreement was awarded to Summit Energy Company, LLC at the October mineral lease sale in the amount of $4.6 million covering 160,000 acres located primarily in Iberia Parish. The area of the exclusive geophysical agreement includes Marsh Island, on which is located the Marsh Island Wildlife Refuge operated by the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and surrounding waters.

State Mineral Board Releases August Figures
Members of the Louisiana Mineral Board elected new officers for the upcoming year at its August meeting. David "Hal" Stiel, III of Franklin was named chairman of the state Mineral Board and Tom Arnold, Jr. of Harvey was elected vice-chairman. Stiel was appointed to the Mineral Board in 1996 while Arnold was appointed in 1997 by Governor Foster.
